What is the deal with relaxation exercises?

· Kelly Anthony

I often tell my clients to make sure that they are practicing relaxation exercises on a regular basis, but more often than not people chose not to do them. So, why is relaxation so important in the fight against anxiety? Well, first let’s talk about the different types that you can do. There are guided meditations, breathing exercises, guided imagery, and progressive muscle relaxation, here is a whole list of them here: https://medicine.umich.edu/sites/default/files/content/downloads/Relaxation-Skills-for-Anxiety.pdf There are so many apps that can be downloaded onto your phone and free videos that can be watched on Youtube that it may seem overwhelming, there is definitely not a shortage of options.
The benefits of relaxation exercises are many as well and there is plenty of research to prove it. If someone offered you a way to reduce blood pressure, decrease the risk of having a stroke, reduce inflammation, have less stress in your life, and feel happier, don’t you think you would do it? See this complete list of all the benefits for even more inspiration: https://www.adventhealth.com/blog/10-health-benefits-relaxation-plus-tips-help-you-unwind And here: https://livepositive.space/what-are-the-benefits-of-relaxation/ After reading these two articles alone you can see how taking the time to relax can be one of the most productive things that you can do! People put so much pressure on themselves to be productive that they don’t see the value in using their time to relax, but this investment is one that is well worth it and will have a great rate of return both now and in the future, so just do it!!!!!
