Counseling For Families

Family Counseling: Strengthening Communication and Restoring Connection.

Families can sometimes fall into unhelpful patterns of communication and behavior. Whether it’s the stress of a new marriage, siblings not getting along, or recognizing that you—as a parent—are getting pulled into the same unhealthy cycles, these challenges can create tension at home. In some cases, one or two family members may be struggling more than others, but they may be hesitant to attend counseling on their own. Family therapy can offer a structured and supportive way to address these concerns together or individually.

How Family Counseling Can Help.

Our approach focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and helping each family member feel heard and understood. We work to create a safe, balanced environment where everyone has the opportunity to express themselves openly and respectfully.

At times, the most effective plan involves a combination of individual and family sessions. This allows us to address personal concerns privately while also strengthening the family system as a whole.

  • Interventions help aid in communication.
  • We work to understand the needs of both.
  • Families work together to overcome challenges.

What to Expect From the Counseling Process.

Our goal is to create a safe, productive environment where all family members feel respected, supported, and hopeful about the process.

Family counseling typically begins with weekly sessions and may gradually shift to bi-weekly or every three weeks as progress is made. A typical month might look like:

  • Week 1: One family member attends an individual session
  • Week 2: A different family member attends
  • Week 3: The entire family comes together for a group session

This flexible structure helps ensure that each person receives the support they need while also building healthier family dynamics.

Session Length and Structure.

Many families prefer 90-minute sessions, as the extended time allows all parties to feel heard and allows us to make meaningful progress in each meeting. When needed, we also offer 50-minute sessions that are typically covered by insurance. Session lengths are planned in advance to help ensure a predictable schedule for you and your therapist.

How We Work With Insurance.

At Life Encounter Counseling, we are committed to helping you access the care you need while staying within ethical and professional guidelines. When appropriate, we can bill insurance under the family therapy modality, and we will discuss your options clearly so you understand how sessions can be structured.

What To Expect.

At Life Encounter Counseling, we try to be as creative as possible within ethical parameters to get you the help you need and are asking for.

We have learned that oftentimes a 90 minute session is preferred because of the need for good work to get done and both partners feeling heard. However, many times we can get enough accomplished in the 50 min session insurance will reimburse for.

We plan out session time allotments ahead of time as our therapists will have clients before and after your session.
