Enneagram Type 9: The Peacemaker

· Angie Morgan

“Can’t we all just get along?”

Enneagram 9’s are easygoing, agreeable, accepting, supportive, and long for harmony. Nines are interested in being rather than doing. Enneagram 9’s are masters at seeing life from every other number’s perspective and can embody the strengths of just about every other number. Nines can relate to others so much that they lose sight of their own identity. Nines are famous for merging, meaning they go along with what others want because they value others’ opinions or plans over their own. Nines are known for being happy when others are happy, or in other words, they can only be at peace when the people in their lives are at peace. Likewise, they struggle to be okay if the people in their lives are not at peace.

Enneagram 9’s have the lowest energy of any number and are knick-named “sloth.” Nines struggle to make decisions, mostly because they see so many points of view, they sometimes struggle to pay attention to their own wants and needs, and they are concerned about how their decisions will affect the people in their lives. Nines fear that asserting themselves will cause conflict and a lack of connection with others. Nines can become easily overwhelmed and shut down, leading to procrastination and what looks like laziness. Because nines do not have much energy to start with, it can take them a very long time to get out of this kind of state.

Who are Famous Examples of Enneagram Type Nines?

Enneagram Nines in Relationship

Enneagram 9’s are easy to get along with because they are so appeasing, agreeable, and harmonious. Nines are naturally humble, which can lead to being overlooked because they value giving space and supporting others’ ideas and agendas. It is helpful to always ask 9’s their opinions, wants, or needs instead of assuming their silence means they do not have any. Likewise, it is helpful for 9’s to assert themselves and be known. Nines go to great lengths to avoid conflict because they fear it will ruin the relationship. Enneagram 9’s would benefit from learning how to have conflict in healthy ways.
