Meet Erin

In life we run into challenges that cause us to face the possibility of making a change. The challenge might be dealing with a situation that we never thought we’d find ourselves in, or it might be something that has been with us for a long time that we can no longer ignore. When we really look at those challenges, we come to a place of realizing that it’s time for a change for ourselves and/or for those we care most about. Choosing to face those challenges takes strength and courage. The counseling relationship can offer support, grace, comfort and guidance during these times of change.

Call Erin: (503) 893-2563 – Email Erin: erin.carkner@gmail.com

It is my joy to walk alongside you in the process of change. Together we will consider the way you have lived your life story and find new insight into areas of frustration, pain and disappointment. Since none of us live in a vacuum, we will explore your life story in the context of family dynamics, relationships, culture and community. We will work together to find new ways of thinking, believing, and engaging in daily life so that you may begin to make steps toward living the life you most desire.

People choose to enter into counseling for all sorts of reasons. Whatever that reason is for you, as your therapist I will honor and respect the decision you make to entrust me with your life story at whatever level you choose to share it. I will view our relationship as a collaborative one, and we will work together as a team to achieve your therapeutic goals.

My goal is to create a non-judgmental, supportive space that will bring about new strength, perspective and vitality. I use a variety of approaches and tools that I will tailor to your needs and our work together.

METHODOLOGY & TOOLS

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is an approach that involves you and I recognizing together that the challenges and obstacles that you face are just that:  Challenges and obstacles. This allows us to separate problems in your life from you to give us room to explore, or discover, the strengths, skills, beliefs and values that will support you in healing and working through challenges.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an approach that I will use to support you in understanding how thoughts, feelings and beliefs affect behavior, and how this may influence how you interact with yourself and others.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy offers both perspective and skills that will support you in being able to manage thoughts, emotions and actions in difficult situations.

Ecological Perspective
